Hazardous waste management
software for
RCRA generators

Manage hazardous waste from generation to disposal - accumulation-start timers, manifest generation, and hauler coordination, all tied back to the chemical that created it. This element is in development.

RCRA obligations move with the waste. How long you may hold it depends on your generator category, and your category depends on how much you generated that month. The accumulation clock starts the day waste first goes into a container in the storage area (satellite containers at the point of generation follow their own rules), and once a shipment leaves, a signed manifest has to come back from the receiving facility within a fixed number of days or you owe an exception report. Tracked across drums, sites and haulers in a spreadsheet, each of those clocks is easy to lose.

What it is being built to do

Generator-status tracking (VSQG / SQG / LQG)

Being built to calculate each site's generator category from the waste it records month by month, using the federal thresholds, so a month that tips a site into large quantity generator status is flagged when it happens.

Accumulation-start timers with alerts

Being built to start a clock for each container when accumulation begins and warn ahead of the limit for the site's category - 90 days for large quantity generators, 180 days (or 270) for small quantity generators.

Manifests and hauler coordination

Being built to prepare manifests from the waste records, schedule pickups with your hauler, and track each shipment until the signed copy comes back from the receiving facility.

Tied back to the chemical that created it

Being built to link each waste stream to the products in your chemical inventory and SDS library, so hazards and waste codes are grounded in the data you already keep.

Common questions

What are the RCRA hazardous waste generator categories?
Under 40 CFR 262.13, a very small quantity generator (VSQG) generates no more than 100 kg of hazardous waste and no more than 1 kg of acute hazardous waste in a calendar month; a small quantity generator (SQG) generates more than 100 kg but less than 1,000 kg; and a large quantity generator (LQG) generates 1,000 kg or more of hazardous waste, more than 1 kg of acute hazardous waste, or more than 100 kg of acute spill cleanup residue. Category is determined month by month, and some states are stricter than the federal rules.
How long can hazardous waste be accumulated on site?
Federally, a large quantity generator may accumulate hazardous waste for up to 90 days, and a small quantity generator for up to 180 days - or 270 days if the waste must travel more than 200 miles to a treatment, storage or disposal facility - with no more than 6,000 kg on site at any time. VSQGs have no federal time limit, but a VSQG that accumulates 1,000 kg or more on site at any time (or more than 1 kg of acute hazardous waste) must then meet the stricter SQG or LQG accumulation conditions.
What is EPA's e-Manifest system?
e-Manifest is EPA's national system for hazardous waste manifests, created under the Hazardous Waste Electronic Manifest Establishment Act and launched in June 2018. Manifests can be completed and signed electronically, receiving facilities submit final manifests to it, and EPA charges those facilities a per-manifest user fee.
